I got the call from Art in May 2011. He hadn’t sung in months because of the injury to his throat. He said, “Tab, I need to sing with just an acoustic guitar and someone I trust. I thought of you.” Thus began the last four years on the road with Art.
After almost 50 years of singing Scarborough Fair, most singers would phone it in, but even in sound check, Art sings every nuance of the song like it’s the first time. Working with him I realized there’s a reason some people with talent make it and others don’t. It’s about dedication and focus and he has that in spades.
I’ve been in the music industry for over forty years and I must admit that when Art leans over in the middle of the show, smiles and says, “beautiful”, it’s still a thrill. This is the legend, Art Garfunkel.
